This week we had Sam's 18month check up at the nurse. He's been growing! We had a special treat- food court lunch then came home to make the most of some quiet time as Sam slept for some 'girl time'. We made playdough and played a game that was mine when I was a little girl (on Tilly's request). After little mate was up and cheery, we went for a walk to do the school run and we had a play with the neighbours in the late afternoon. Cleaning up throughout the day and lots of funny anecdotes which will be included in my album.
Wednesdays are for chrio appointments, for playgroup and for relaxed 'no plans' afternoons. This week we had Sam's 18month check up at the nurse. He's been growing! Tuesday at our house means art class then usually having a play with a friend. We have an arrangement where we swap houses each week and then meet up later in the afternoon when the younger ones wake for a cuppa and a grown up chat. It's such a great arrangement because it means that both mums get some time out- our girls play so well together that it usually gives us a break!
Sam woke too early again this morning. I asked Toby to come and take him and Tilly came in to my bed and had a further 30mins sleep in with me. I'm feeling tired! This week we had a visit to the art studio rather than a lesson which we still enjoyed. It was our turn to have our friend over today. 'Frozen' was a game that featured prominently. Even though my Tilly has only seen the movie once in entirety, she is 'into it' and loves the songs. Plenty of dress ups and some painting together too. My friend from high school days visited when Sam slept so we got to catch up properly too with the girls entertaining themselves. I, like many others have been spending this week documenting my every day with the project, Week in the Life by Ali Edwards. If you're new to this concept check out Ali's video here for more information.
I will put together my album at a later stage, but for now I have been snapping lots of photos and taking notes on paper (using random scraps and the templates that Ali has available for free) or on the iphone (notes, sms's to myself). I am LOVING using my SLR so much this week and already know that I have captured some new favourite photos. The favourites are not always the 'best' photos- they may be out of focus or grainy, but they are moments captured that evoke emotion and stir memories and stories for me. I can't wait to get the stories out! Below are some of my favourite snaps from Monday. The process of selecting photos to share here is helping me to choose the ones that will feature in my album. I enjoy looking at how others capture the everyday moments and I hope that I might be able to inspire someone else too! Please leave a comment if you get a new idea. :) My current camera and I have been together for many years now. It was bought in 2006 when I went on a trip with some friends and since then it has long exceeded the life span of it's shutter. Weddings, babies, everyday life, selfies, nature, friends, strangers, travel, it's all been captured on this baby! I'd be lying if I said I was devastated to see this error come up the other day. She still works, temperamentally, but it looks like it's time to start researching for a new camera! Yippee! I won't lie, I am a fan of the selfie. Almost daily I capture a photo if the kids and I together. The other day though I discovered an app which I think I'll use now and again to capture us doing life. The app is called TimerCam and it allows you to use your iPhone camera on a timer. And it's free! You can easily alter the time to give you the chance to get back in frame. What I love is that I can now capture moments from a different perspective like those shots above, without being obvious or distracting to the kids. Have a try. I'd love to know if you like it. |
